“Great cinema on a bonsai area!”

Journalist Martin U. Müller

Thoughts & insights

Jan Henric Buettner is considered a pioneer in the mobile communications, internet, venture capital and luxury resort hotel industries.

After helping to write German business history as a visionary and self-made man, he is now using the wealth he has built up to focus more on projects that allow him to develop personally.

In “JBite-sized 7 x 7 life wisdoms ;)”, he has compiled his thoughts and insights on what he believes should really count in life with a twinkle in his eye. The book was described by renowned DER SPIEGEL journalist Martin U. Müller as: “Great cinema on a bonsai surface!”

Jan Henric Buettner

“Seven times seven can be the 1 x 1 of life”, because ‘modern man is productive above all in the almost 50 years that are available to him – if all other circumstances remain happy – from teenage to retirement age’.

“But seven times seven also makes very fine sand”, which is to say that everything in life is always a question of perspective and personal attitude. The content of the book is interesting for all age groups and is also relevant across national borders, as it can be read from the front or back (depending on perspective) in German or English.

Example episode (from chapter 5):

“At a young age, we are sensitive to the opinions of our peers, tend to be outwardly rather than inwardly oriented, and usually live out expectations that others have and had for our lives – especially those of our parents, siblings, teachers, peers and childhood heroes. We call it a “midlife crisis” when we think we’ve reached the “top of the ladder” but realize that it’s against the wrong wall.”

Hey Jan,

I just finished your little book and, as for everyone else, the book ended for me with reviews that I’d like to briefly join.

I myself have read a few books about the meaning of life or the art of self-discovery, which is also a pretty big part of life, especially at my age. I really like dealing with it, I also always have a lot of drive (which has been somewhat dampened and slowed down by a lot of partying and subsequent hangovers in recent years. Oh well.) and that’s why your words of wisdom really spoke to me. Basically, first of all, I like your easy-going manner, both in writing and in everyday life. I like how honest you are in the book and how precisely you address the important things directly. I wish all these “wisdom books” were so short and to the point. Why beat around the bush when you can just do/say it? That’s kind of the essence of your book. Just do it. I like doers, I find them very inspiring and that’s why I also like your book. Everything I read in this direction is like a new signpost on the side of the road, one more arrow on a map or an extra boost for the motivational engine to start new ideas and projects again. It serves as a guiding analogy for action and deals with the most important topic there is: life (and the) self.

Thank you for letting me be part of your very private story and I think it’s nice to know you and Holly (greetings!) :) See you soon in Weissenhaus, I’m really looking forward to it!

Xx Ida

Dear Janjan,

I am very impressed by what you have written and had to read it several times to process it – after all, I am now very old indeed. You have written something really great – it could have been written by a professor. There is so much truth in your booklet that touches me deeply and that I can also relate to my long life. It is so instructive and full of content, and it is exactly right: everything that is important is not urgent, and everything that seems urgent is not important. I have enjoyed reading your book again and again, because every chapter is enriching and important to read. You have such a strong inner life, which I really appreciate and love about you. I am glad that I was able to get to know you and I am so immensely proud of you, just as my sister – your grandmother Nota, who also loved you very much – was.”
